Emily Litella

For all you fellow Gilda Radner fans out there, a quick story. Of all the cities on the itinerary, the one that I have been having the most trouble remembering is the one in Iran. So I have been using a little memory trick, and thinking of the singer Gloria Estefan, and then saying her last name. So I just noticed that the name of the town is not Estefan, but Esfahan

Never Mind.

I am humbled by how many of you are going to be too young to understand this reference. Since it has nothing to do with the trip, I won't further explain who Emily Litella / Gilda Radner were, but this is the Internet, if you want a laugh, go look it up.

First Posting

This is my first ever blog posting. Jane and I are taking an Around-the-World Trip at the end of October. Here is our Itinerary: Kyoto & Nara, Japan • Da Nang, Hoi An & Hue, Vietnam • Jodhpur, India • Esfahan, Iran • Cairo & the Great Pyramids, Egypt • Fez, Morocco • Voodoo Culture in Togo & Medieval Villages of Benin • Salvador, Brazil • Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

The trip ends in Orlando. We are flying home from there rather than going to Epcot to recreate the trip in miniature.

Yes, we are scheduled to go to Iran. Yes, we are looking forward to it, and no, we are not afraid. But since some of our friends are nervous for us, here is our signal. In the unlikely event we end up in one of those hostage videos, if I say "Go Red Sox", everything is fine. If I say "Go Yankees", you know I must be under extreme duress.
